1. Shedding Test
Although it is normal for your hair extensions shed just like your natural hair, too much shedding is a noticeable sign of poor-quality hair extensions. So you can run your fingers through your hair extensions to test the quality of your hair extensions. If the hair feels silky smooth to touch and separates with ease and with little to no shedding, this means the hair is high quality. However, if your fingers get stuck in tangles and find your hands covered in lost strands, this shows the hair is made of or with low-quality hair.
The higher quality hair extensions are, the less shedding is. On the contrary, the more shedding is, the poorer the quality of your hair extensions.
2. Tangle Test
A simple way to determine good quality hair extensions is to perform a wet tangle test. This involves holding the extensions at the root and swishing them through shampooed water to replicate the washing process. After doing this several times, we then rinse the hair thoroughly in clean water. If hair cuticles have been inverted with roots and end now at opposite ends, the hairs will creep up on each other creating a tangled knot near the roots that cannot be removed, even with brushing and conditioner. It’s normal for any kind of hair to tangle. But if your hair extensions tangle excessively after washing, it could be chemically processed hair. That is because chemically processed hair is collected from dirty sources and is bathed in acid to strip off the dirt and cuticles. Thus, it is no cuticles, thus becoming tangled excessively.

3. Burn Test
Yep, you read that correctly… the burn test. We’re not saying you need to go and cut off a lot of your hair extensions but this is a significant and extreme way to test the quality of your hair by burning it with fire. In this way, you’ll make sure whether the hair is 100% virgin human hair or synthetic. All you need to do is cut a small bundle of hair (we do mean small, minor even, just enough to see a difference when applying a flame to it) and light the ends on fire. When the hair starts to burn, it is time to observe carefully. During the burning process, observe how it burns, how it smells while burning, how easily it can be extinguished, and what kind of ash it leaves behind.
4. Scrunch Test
While using one hand to hold the top of the hair, place your other hand underneath the ends and push them up at the same time until they touch the roots. The next step is to rub your hands together to cause slight friction in the hair and then release. In the end, run your fingers through the hair. If your fingers slide freely through the hair, there is no doubt the hair is high quality. And the more it snags and gets caught, the lower the quality of your human hair bundles are.
