Your extensions need extra TLC, merely because they aren’t attached to your scalp and aren’t receiving nutrition from your body.  What I love about this recipe is there is no wrong or right way to mix it!

You will need:

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Castor Oil
  • One Egg
  • Hair Mayo
  • Coconut Oil

Instructions: You can use as much or as little of each ingredient to customize the deep conditioner for your hair extensions. For extra dry and damaged hair, use more oil. If your extensions are not dry and are just a little kinky, use less oil to prevent grease build-up.

 I love to start with three tablespoons of hair mayo, one tablespoon of coconut oil, one teaspoon of tea tree oil, and one egg. Use a fork to mix the ingredients until there are no lumps evenly.

 After you shampoo your extensions, towel-dry the majority of water from the hair, then, use your hands to apply your DIY deep conditioner to the extensions. Comb the mixture through to ensure even distribution. Place your extensions in a plastic bag for 1 hour.

 Thoroughly rinse the hair with warm to hot water and blow-dry.

Note: You can use any avocado for this recipe, but I recommend Hass avocados because they are easier to mix.

 Instructions: Peel one avocado and adds the contents to the blender without the seed. Turn the blender on and slowly add water until the avocado becomes a creamy consistency. Pour the mixture into a plastic bowl. Apply the avocado to freshly shampooed hair and rinse thoroughly.

5. Aloe Vera Deep Conditioner

 Aloe vera is incredibly beneficial for your hair extensions, due to its ability to deeply moisturize the hair and add a beautiful shine. Olive oil is an amazing source of vitamins, which strengthens the hair and also adds a natural shine.

You will need:

  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Instructions: Squeeze 6oz of aloe vera gel into a plastic bowl and add a teaspoon of olive oil. Use a fork to whisk until the aloe vera is an even consistency. Apply to freshly washed extensions and rinse thoroughly.

6. Almond Oil Treatment

 Almond oil is rich in vitamins E, A, D, and B, and it also contains proteins that benefit the strength of the hair. This almond oil treatment is great for colored hair extensions because it will restore some of the protein lost from harsh bleaching chemicals.

 Heat up 80 oz of almond oil in the microwave or on a stovetop. Do not heat the oil to high heat, heat the oil to be warm. Using gloves, apply the heated oil to your extensions, focusing on the ends. Place the extensions in a bag and allow them to sit overnight. The next day, shampoo the almond oil out with sulfate-free shampoo and condition as normal.

 Instructions: If you own a blender, add all the ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. If you don’t have a blender, mash the avocado and banana together with a fork and slowly add the egg. Whisk the mixture until it is as smooth as possible. Apply to your extensions from tip to root and allow the hair to sit in a bag for at least an hour before washing with a sulfate-free shampoo.

8. Coconut Creme

 Coconut milk is used around the world as a home remedy to strengthen hair, and it’s no wonder why! Packed with proteins and essential vitamins like C, E, and B12, coconut milk is the perfect remedy for weak and dry hair.

You will need:

  • Canned Coconut Milk
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Honey

Instructions: Add the contents of the coconut milk can into a pan and set the heat to medium. Add 2 tbsp honey and 2 tbs olive oil to the pan and stir. Allow the coconut milk to simmer and the water to evaporate out of the milk for 30 min.

 Post 30 min, the coconut milk should appear similar to condensed milk. Allow the mixture to cool for 10 minutes then transfer to an applicator bottle to easily apply the mixture to your freshly washed extensions. Allow your extensions to the condition in a bag for at least an hour and then rinse.

9. Shea Butter

 Shea butter not only can deeply moisturize your extensions, but it also can deter frizz and mask the look of split ends.

You will need:

  • 1+ 1/3 cup Shea Butter
  • ½ cup of coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil

Instructions: Heat the shea butter in a saucepan until it becomes a liquid form. Mix the olive oil in and allow it to cool for 15-30 minutes. Do not allow the mixture to cool completely. Add the vitamin E oil and whip the mixture until it becomes a mousse-like consistency. Apply this mixture to the hair 15 minutes before you shampoo. Be sure to get the majority of shea butter out to prevent greasy hair.

10. Sesame Seed Oil

 Sesame seed oil is a great ingredient. It can be used to minimize dandruff and itchy scalp. Sesame seed oil can work wonders for healing scalp infections and scalp fungus due to its anti-fungal properties that help treat and kill bacteria that may cause dandruff.

You will need:

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • ¼ cup sesame seed oil (not toasted sesame seed oil)

  • Plastic conditioning cap

Instructions: Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and stir until evenly smooth. Next apply the conditioner to damp or wet hair, cover your hair with a plastic conditioning cap and leave it on for a minimum of one hour. Lastly, rinse out the mixture thoroughly.

  • Two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar

Instructions: Mix all the ingredients well in a bowl thoroughly. Once you have shampooed your hair, pour this solution on your hair tips; avoid exposing it to the scalp. Do not rinse it any further. Adding water is a critical step in order to dilute the vinegar. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar helps smoothen your hair.

You will need:

  • One ripe banana
  • 2-3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • One tablespoon of pure honey
  • Plastic conditioning cap

Instructions: Mix the olive oil and banana in a blender until it is smooth. Next, add the remaining ingredients and mix well until there are no lumps. When using bananas, it can be tough to get all the lumps out. To remove the pieces, pour the mixture through a strainer. This will help to remove any extra lumps or banana pulp that you won’t want to deal with when you apply the conditioner to your hair. Apply the conditioner to wet hair then cover your hair with a plastic conditioning cap. Leave the conditioner on for a minimum of 30 minutes before rinsing it out thoroughly.
